Yummy And Delicious: How To Get Cheap Wedding Cakes!

By Kennly Yakamoto

The wedding cake is an interesting part of the ceremony. It does not take a huge part of the budget, some venues when you book with them will offer you a free wedding cake in fact. However, every little bit counts when you're planning a wedding and cheap wedding cakes can help take a bit off that budget!

Wedding cakes are an interesting part of the wedding tradition. They share the spotlight with the bride and groom for a good five to ten minutes during the cake-cutting, so they have to look good. Then they're sent out for the guests to consume, so they have to taste good.

The most economical idea is to have two separate cakes: a 'show' cake and a 'tasting' cake. Here we'll look at how to find inexpensive versions of both.

Your 'show' cake has to look good but doesn't necessarily have to taste good since it won't be going out to your guests. For this reason, you also don't need it to be large. A smaller cake is less expensive and can still look very nice. Make a smaller layer cake look larger by arranging the layers so they're not stacked directly on top of each other. Another option is to 'rent' a cake that the bride and groom cut into for the photos. After the pictures, the cake goes back to the bakery for fixing up for the next wedding. A similar idea is to make a fake cake that looks nice but isn't edible. Under the cake-like exterior is an inexpensive filler such as styrofoam. It'll look good for the pictures and that's what matters for the show cake.

Your 'eating' cake should be big enough to feed all your guests and should taste good. A big sheet cake is perfect for this purpose. Since this cake will be cut in the kitchen, the frosting and decorations don't need to be elaborate. Keep the fillings simple as well. As long as it tastes good, your guests won't care that it's sweet cream rather than expensive liqueur. Look into a catering school to see if they can make your sheet cake for cheaper. They might be able to do an inexpensive show cake for you as well. As always, it's smart to consider options that aren't labeled 'wedding.' Since this cake isn't about appearances, you don't need to buy a traditional (more expensive) wedding cake here.

Finally, consider alternatives to wedding cakes.

Modern weddings and modern brides are more daring these days. With a foothold in tradition they continue to find creative ways to cut costs and express themselves. Such as cupcake "wedding cakes" or brownie "wedding cakes".

Hopefully you can use these tips to help you find a good wedding cake that will suit your reception needs and save you money.
