By Angus Morrison

The United Kingdom is a brilliant destination in which to take a vacation. The reasons for this include a rich and romantic history and a stunning countryside. The kinds of available vacations is stunning with such a massive choice of vacation destinations each of which feature immensely different opportunities and rural areas which range from areas with lots of mountains to amazingly flat areas. Below I examine the coastline and put forward the town of Southport, in England's North West, as the best seaside vacation destination in the United Kingdom.

Found on the shores of the English North West, Southport places of interest include, Southport Pier, Lord Street, Wayfarers' Arcade, the Botanic Gardens at Churchtown, Botanic Gardens Museum, Churchtown village itself and more.

Southport's Famous Lord Street

Lord Street is the main shopping street in Southport. All along one side of Lord Street the broad pavement are covered by ornate Victorian iron work together with a row of lush green trees closer to the road. Over on the other side of the street there are a Victorian bandstand, small sections of gardens and flower beds with pools and fountains. Right in the heart of Lord Street is more than likely the most bold war memorials in Great Britain with an obelisk in the middle and two other monuments on either side which feature large columns. Lord Street features some of the finest architecture to be found in Southport and it is where you will discover the Victorian Wayfarers' Arcade.

Parks And Gardens In Southport

Hesketh Park

The incredibly beautiful Hesketh Park is found at the end of Lord Street. Hesketh Park is named after the Hesketh family and like Lord Street it is heavily wooded. Hesketh Park also features hidden gardens, a bandstand, glass house, play park and more however the most prominent feature is the gorgeous lake.

Churchtown's Botanic Gardens

You will find another wonderful park, the Botanic Gardens in Chruchtown which has a a river come lake which features a bridge, boating, swans, ducks and other wildlife and if you like animals and birds the park also has a tiny zoo, just in front of the cafe and museum. The village of Churchtown is a picturesque collection of old fishermen's cottages, cottages and houses mostly white and small number feature a roof of thatch. It is important that you take a walk around and that you look around every corner as there are one or two hidden gems well worth the trouble to find.

Finding Southport bed & breakfast is not too difficult with a varied selection of hotels and guest houses available online. There are guest houses for all budgets and tastes from low-priced B&B to the more costly top of the range luxury accommodation in the town centre and outside.
