Talk with anyone who comes your way and show a genuine interest in everybody. That is all people want to see and they will be ready to relate with you. But do not pick out some people to relate with.
Fitting in might come with time and might seem a real task. This is because the efforts you put in to relate with people might not bring the desired result. At times it feels as if the people don't even accept you as part of them. But do not over work yourself, just take it cool and enjoy your own company.
Know that not everybody will accept you. These things can be very natural but if you handle this period well. A number of people will naturally drift to your side with time. And you don't have to fear because the stressful time will not last. The only concern is that even 30 minutes in this situation can be hell.
Your former school will not too different from high school. The broad educational concept is the same. So experience can really help you at high school. If you made friends, had fun and enjoyed your former school. Why can't you have the same liberty here? All you need to do is to psych yourself up and encourage yourself before you even get there.
