How To Properly Wear Big And Tall Men's Clothing

By Bryan Dean

There was once a stigma attached to buying clothes for big and tall men. The unspoken opinion by many people was that these shoppers were overweight or unpleasant, and that's why so many men avoided publically buying these clothes.

Quite a few years ago only triple or quadruple XL clothes were called Big and Tall Men's clothes. But now it's a little different because even an extra large size is considered big and tall. Ok, what's happening is the labels are showing smaller sizes because designers are targeting smaller people with their lines. This is a relatively newer trend in men's clothing, although its been going on with women's clothes for a very long time. One result you may already be seeing is more clothing stores stocking big and tall men's clothes. So let's see how you can get the best deals and find the clothes you need at the same time.

It's really best to avoid "flowing" fabrics, but you want to find fabric that breathes. Big flowing shirts might seem like a good idea. They breathe well, let air circulate on your skin and generally feel better to the touch. The thing about these fabrics is they tend to make you look much larger than you really are.

Do be sure to try on the clothes you intend to buy before leaving. Clothing sizes are not standardized, anymore - so there will be variations in all sizes. You'll see things like clothes being several sizes too small, or too large. You don't want to deal with the hassle of having to return something once you find out that it doesn't fit. Simply trying them on first can possibly save you some headaches, later. Have you ever bought something, and when you tried it on (the first time) at home it looks just terrible?

You should also try to pick clothing with a lower cut waistline. Pants cut with a higher waist don't look good on most body shapes, which could be why they're difficult to find these days. Look for pants that are cut as mid-rise or low-waist so they'll sit lower on your hips. These can help lengthen the look of your torso. If possible, try to look for pants that will sit a little below your waist line. However, don't get pants that are too low cut, or you might end up with a 'muffin top' appearance, which can be unflattering.

If you need a nice jacket, always go with single breasted lapels. The single breasted lapel jackets will make you look slimmer.Formal wear is something that should be shopped for carefully, and, if you can afford it, have it tailored or even custom made. Really, there's no reason at all why you won't look great just because you wear big and tall men's clothes. There are lots of hints and tricks that you can use to help your search for big and tall men's clothing seem more like fun and less like a chore. Regardless of what size clothing you wear, it can be easy to find outfits to suit you. The key is to work with styles that flatter your shape and then expand your collection accordingly. There are so many designers offering big and tall mens' clothing that your choices are increasing every day. You might be surprised how easy it is to find clothing that makes you look and feel great.

When you know where to look, you'll find it's easy to buy clothes that fit you, no matter what size you need. The 'big and tall' distinction shouldn't be a deterrent for buying the clothing you really want. Designers are beginning to understand the importance of creating clothing that is practical in the size variations as well as the style choices. The old stigma of 'big and tall' from a decade ago no longer exists, as more retailers understand that fashion is for everyone. The concept of fashion alters all the time. Who knows-in a few more years the "big and tall" distinction might be gone completely!
